Mr. Clayton B. Meeks

July 10, 1942 — July 7, 2017

Mr. Clayton B. Meeks, 74 of Anderson passed away Friday, July 7th at his residence. A private memorial service for immediate family is to be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Clayton was born July 10, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Clayton W. and Helen Virginia (Brewster) Meeks. During high school, he was enrolled in the U. S. Army Reserve. He had graduated high school and was attending the first week of college when he was called to active duty to serve during the Berlin Crisis. Upon an honorable discharge and returning home, he again enrolled in college and it was during those years that he married Elizabeth Lunsford.

Eventually, Clayton would obtain his Masters in Operations Management from the University of South Carolina and begin his career as a plant manager in the automotive industry, specializing in the manufacturing of auto parts. He was a workaholic and was often called upon to troubleshoot major issues. It was a career he loved and took great pride in and one that would eventually land his family in Grimes County for a position in Conroe in the early 90's. He was a laid back, quiet man with a dry sense of humor. He loved family time, and his three grandsons were the apple of his eye. His therapy was piddling around in the yard and admiring the yard work he accomplished from his chair on the back porch. He enjoyed cooking on his grill and watching college football, particularly his beloved alma mater, University of South Carolina..

Mr. Meeks is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth; daughter Virginia Ann Meeks; son and daughter-in-law Richard Lee and Kristen K. Meeks and former daughter-in-law Flori Meeks; brothers and sisters-in-law Randall and Linda Meeks, Raymond and Lynn Meeks, Robert and Annaleisa Meeks and Kathy Meeks; grandchildren Karl and Scott Meeks (sons of Richard and Flori Meeks) and Patrick Meeks (son of Richard and Kristen Meeks).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton W. and Helen Meeks and brother Rusty Meeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a memorial contribution be made in his name to the Anderson Food Pantry.
