Mr. James A. Kott

February 27, 1932 — June 20, 2015

Mr. James A. Kott, 83, of Richards, passed away on Saturday, June 20th at his residence. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 - 8:00pm, Tuesday, June 23rd at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 24th at 10:00am at Zion Lutheran Church in Anderson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
James was born in Kerr County, Texas on February 27, 1932 to Hilmer and Ida Mae Kott. He married Bobbie Louise and together they raised five children. He owned and operated several service stations in the Houston area when the children were younger, and in 1974 moved his family to Grimes County and settled in Richards. He opened Kott’s Service Station in Anderson while his wife operated the café next door. James enjoyed being outside, whether it be working in his yard, tending his cows or deer hunting. He was an avid, die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan but occasionally could be caught rooting for the Houston Texans as well. James retired from Kott’s Service Station, but the café remains open and operated by family to this day and still serves as a gathering place for many Grimes County citizens.
Mr. Kott is survived by his daughters Donna Hejny of Anderson, Brenda June Kott of Richards, Sandy Kott of Houston and Tina Marie Kott of Anderson; son and daughter-in-law James (Jay) A. Kott, Jr. and Theresa of Singleton; grandchildren Lee O’Connell, Chris Proske, Maegen Kott, Trisha Kott and Jayme Kott; and great-grandchildren Ashleigh O’Connell, London O’Connell, Xian Proske and Logan Proske.
Serving as pallbearers are Lee O’Connell of Panorama Village, Chris Proske of Conroe, David Price of Bedias, Brian Backhus of Anderson, Gary Kott of Fredericksburg, Mel Kott of Kerrville, Hall Poorman of Kerrville and Joe Tykal of Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are Frank (Spoogy) and Betty Haggerty, F. D. Calhoun, Sybil Horn, Elayne Stewart, Chester Finke and Danny Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bobbie Louise Kott, second wife Sandra Kott, two brothers and 5 sisters.
