Mr. James D. Reeves

Mr. James D. Reeves, 77, of Navasota, passed away Tuesday, January 13th at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00pm Monday, January 19th at First Baptist Church of Navasota with interment following in Oakland Cemetery. Rev. Clyde Larrabee will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
James was born on December 25, 1937 in Carthage, Mississippi to Dolvis and Erva (Pilgrim) Reeves. He was one of eleven children. He graduated from high school and joined the U. S. Navy. After an honorable discharge he began a lifetime career as a carpenter. He was an avid Astros fan and sports in general. Earlier in life, he enjoyed hunting and raising his beloved bloodhounds. An outdoorsman in every sense of the word, James loved fishing, going to the beach and boating. He would also readily recount his bout with meningitis as a youngster, having been the first known survivor of the disease in Mississippi.
Mr. Reeves is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Chris Bleeker of Navasota; sons and daughters-in-law James A. and Lidia Reeves of League City and John A. and Gabriela Reeves of Plantersville; sister Faye Cady of Santa Fe; brothers and sister-in-law Wayne and Patricia Reeves of Jackson, Mississippi, Larry Reeves of Whiteburg, Georgia and Nolan Reeves of Livingston; grandchildren Brittnee Arriaga, Charlie Bleeker, James Bleeker, Christian Bleeker, Chase Bleeker, Hunter Bleeker, Alicia Reeves, Michael Reeves, Steven Crocker and Ernest Crocker and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers W. C. Reeves, Walter Reeves and Donald Reeves; sisters Ola Pearl Reeves, Sallie Joe Beckham and LaNell Ploch; and lifelong friend and brother-in-law Carlton Ferguson.
Serving as pallbearers are James A. Reeves of Houston, John A. Reeves of Plantersville, Chris Bleeker, Charlie Bleeker, James Bleeker, Christian Bleeker and Matthew Rados, all of Navasota and Larry Reeves of Jackson, Mississippi. Honorary pallbearers are Chase Bleeker, Hunter Bleeker, Michael Reeves, Steven Crocker and Ernest Crocker.
