Mr. Jerry L. Lane Sr.

Jerry L. Lane, Sr., 91 of Navasota, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family on the morning of April 6th. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, May 15th at First Baptist Church of Navasota with Rev. Clyde Larrabee officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Jerry was born in Midway, Texas on May 9, 1929 to James Seth and Arna Mae (Mize) Lane. His family moved to Houston when he was 12. On May 15, 1948, Jerry married his sweetheart Betty Jean Jaenecke and together they had four children. He was an entrepreneur and wore many different hats throughout his life. By trade, he was a machinist that brought industry to Navasota, opening Ram Forge in 1960 and L & S Machine in 1970. He also owned and operated a dairy from 1973 – 1978. His passion for cooking led him to open several restaurants at various times in Navasota. In his earlier years, he enjoyed training and showing horses and cattle with his children. If his children or granchildren were involved, he was involved. He believed in being vested in his community and was a member of the Grimes County Fair Association, the Navasota Chamber of Commerce, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the First Baptist Church of Navasota, and whenever possible still drove his wife and himself to worship.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Betty Jean Lane; daughter Connie Jean Lane Wendland; sons and daughters-in-law Jerry Lee Lane, Jr., and wife Linda, Ricky Lynn Lane and wife Theresa and Michael Ray Lane; sisters Imogene Lane Robertson and Joann Lane Cole; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Shirley Mae Lacey and Geraldine Bradshaw; brother Gerald Wayne Lane and two grandchildren, Marie Lane and Kevin Lee Gragert.
