Alex Zaragoza, Sr., 48, of Navasota, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in College Station. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 12, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Henry Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Alex was born on May 17, 1975 to both Agapito (Pete) and Rita (Garza) Zaragoza in Houston, TX. He attended and graduated Navasota High School in 1993 and during high school he participated on the football team. In May of 1999, Alex enlisted in the United States Army serving 5 deployments; Korea, three times to Iraq, and Afghanistan. In May of 2014, ranking as Sergeant, he was given an honorable discharge.
June 10, 2000, he married his life partner, Ana Maria Flores. To this union, four children were born: Danielle, AJ, Briana and Cade. Alex loved being a coaching dad to each of his children, numerous youth, and to his hometown of Navasota. He was an outdoors person and enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, and barbecuing. Also, Alex enjoyed the occasional bingo game or a trip to the casino.
Alex served as Vice Commander of the Navasota Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4006. If he wasn’t behind the counter working the bar, cooking something delicious, or running an event, he was talking to someone with all his attention. He is remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand while expecting nothing in return. Alex possessed an exceptional soul, which was one of a kind. He could always make anyone laugh; he was a part-time comedian with never ending storytelling. Alex will be greatly missed by many.
Alex is preceded in death by both his parents, Pete and Rita Zaragoza; his sisters, Connie, Jennifer, and Yvonne Zaragoza; and his dog, Shadow.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Ana; his children, Danielle Renee Zaragoza and her fiancé, Eddie Camacho, Jr. of Navasota, Alexander Zaragoza, Jr. and his fiancé, Ada Waterman of Orange City, IA, Briana Nicole Zaragoza, and Cade Anthony Zaragoza of Navasota; his granddaughter, Alana Elaine; his sister, Kathy Zaragoza of Navasota; his brothers, David Zaragoza of Dallas, Matthew Zaragoza and his wife, Christine of Clarksville, TN; and his mom, Mary Zaragoza of Hempstead; his Army brother, Toby Damian of Angleton; his special cousin, J; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
