Alfred Ripper Jr., affectionately known as Big Al was born December 13, 1960, in Houston, Texas, to Shirley and Alfred Ripper Sr., made his final grand exit on May 8, 2026 at 65 years old.
Al loved serving his community through organizations like the Lions Club and Crime Stoppers, and for a time served as a Little League umpire. He also enjoyed antiquing and ran a small picking stand in White Hall, where it’s fair to say he probably bought more treasures than he ever sold—but that was never really the point.
He had a well-known love of guns, good food, and Texas living. In his trail ride days, it’s fair to say Big Al managed to get thrown off just about every horse in Grimes County—but that never seemed to slow him down. He also shared a love of cooking with his beloved Jerri Kay, and together they built Crossroads Catering, feeding people the way Texans do best: generously with no chance of leaving hungry.
Big Al was the kind of man who left an impression—sometimes charming, sometimes loud, always memorable.
He leaves behind his siblings, cousins, his two children, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at St Paul Lutheran Church in Magnolia, TX May 30, 2026 at 2PM.
