Betty Mann Worbington Burkhalter, 87, of Caldwell, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. A private memorial service will be scheduled by the family at a later date.
Betty was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 29, 1938, to Harold Loren Mann, Sr. and Marjorie Spencer Mann. Betty’s family relocated to Texas when she was 14 and always claimed she was a true Texan at heart. Betty married Don Worbington, Sr. on September 10, 1956, and together they raised 3 children. Betty was a homemaker and decided to go to college once her children had grown. Betty attended Blinn College and earned her degree in nursing as a licensed vocational nurse in 1977. Betty later married Maynard Burkhalter on December 31, 1986, and they later moved near Lake Livingston enjoying their time living on the lake. Betty’s nursing career spanned for decades which began 8 years in surgery at Grimes Memorial Hospital, over 25 years as a prison nurse for TDCJ and UTMB, working as a home health nurse following her retirement from the prison before finally retiring from nursing altogether. Over the years Betty’s hobbies included painting, fishing, growing African violets, playing Bingo, taking trips to the casinos, watching gameshows as well as visiting with family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maynard; daughter, Connie Worbington Kohring; son-in-law, Danny Kohring; sisters, Virginia Patterson and Linda Norwood; brother, Harold Loren Mann, III; brothers-in-law, Melvin Worbington and Lester Patterson, Sr.
Betty is survived by son, Don Worbington, Jr.; daughter, Vici Brackman and husband Mike; daughter-in-law, Carey Jensen; grandchildren, Julie Kohring Bolding and husband Chris, Sarah Worbington, Kristen Braden, Pete Worbington; great-grandchildren, Cole Bolding, Jordan Bolding, Avery Weichert; sister-in-law, Donna Mann; brother-in-law, Butch Norwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
