Dane Bettes, 66, of Plantersville, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Tomball Regional Hospital after a lengthy and hard fought battle with cancer. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Navasota with Rev. Mac Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Plantersville Cemetery with Masonic burial rites. A reception will follow in the Plantersville Masonic Lodge. Visitation will be Thursday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Frank Dane Bettes was born October 28, 1942 to Frank B. and Mildred (Cross) Bettes in Fort Worth, TX. He married Marilyn Mullins on March 30, 1963 in Sulphur Springs, TX. Dane was Senior Warden of Planters Lodge #147 A.F. & A.M., President of the Steve Cook Scottish Rite, Past President of the Brazos Valley Shrine Club, and a member of the Arabia Shrine Temple-Houston. He was also Past President of the Morgan Horse Club of Texas and Director Emeritus of the American Morgan Horse Institute. Along with being on the Board of Directors for Plantersville Town Hall, Dane was with State Farm Insurance for over 31 years, a member of First United Methodist Church of Navasota, and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Dane is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marilyn Bettes, daughter Michelle Bettes Allen and husband Doug of Cypress, grandchildren, Andrew Jenson, Clayton Dane, and Kyle Reese Allen, and many friends and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Serving as pallbearers are Don Lemon of Stoneham, John Hale, Craig Heffelman, Cliff Jackson, and W.L. Wallingford all of Plantersville, Johnny Nabors and Gary Walker of Fort Worth, and Tommy Light of College Station. Honorary pallbearers are members of Planters Masonic Lodge #147 and the Brazos Valley Shrine Club.
