Danny was born on October 7, 1946, to Lucius Pate “LP” Prescott and Mildred Prescott. Although he lived a full and adventurous life seeing and experiencing the whole world, his home was always Navasota, Texas. His life was one defined by dedication—to his country, his craft, and his family.

As a Vietnam War veteran, Danny carried a strong sense of duty and resilience throughout his life. After being honorably discharged from the Army as a Seargent, Danny went to work at Eastman Whipstock in 1972 as a directional driller. Despite many changes, Danny remained at Eastman for his entire career.

It was in the oilfield that Danny gained his nickname “Stump”. Stump was a man who believed in learning by doing. Stump went all over the world sharing his knowledge and breaking records. He stood before the Great Pyramids of Giza, walked the Great Wall of China, and watched airplanes fly between skyscrapers in Hong Kong. He fought gas field fires in Kuwait with Red Adair, braved the freezing seas of the North Sea and Alaska, and lived and worked alongside people from every corner of the world. This remarkable career, while rewarding in many ways to him, was, at the end of day, to support the family he loved back home. After retiring in 2015, he devoted his time to his family—especially his wife of 35 years, Katharyn Prescott—doting on her, teasing her, and enjoying the quiet life he had worked so hard to build. His family was glad to have him home after many years of devotion to his craft and the friends he made throughout his career. He spent his retirement honky tonkin’, watching westerns with his grandson, listening to loud country music, and on private planes to Terlingua.

Danny was also a proud father to Chris, Cary, Daniel, and Farron, a cherished grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in passing along not only skills, but values that will carry on for generations. Danny never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel at ease with his quick wit, teasing humor, and endless stories—many gathered from his travels around the world. He loved western, old country music, fast cars and loose overalls. He was never seen without his mustache and always had a smile that hinted he was about to say something funny.

Danny’s legacy is marked by a simple, yet lasting phrase, he repeated often—“be sweet.” To some it may have been the way he ended phone calls, but it was more than that. It was how he lived his life: with kindness, humor, and a genuine love toward others. Danny will be remembered as a man who worked hard, loved deeply, taught generously, and laughed often. His presence will be greatly missed, but his lessons, his stories, and his spirit will live on in all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Cooter and Ruth, his parents LP and Mildred, his brother-in-law James Cassel, and his nephew Brian Prescott.

He is survived by his wife, Katharyn; children Christopher Prescott, Cary Edwards (Steve), Daniel Prescott, and Farron Eickenhorst (Larry Justin); grandchildren Remington, Tristan, Noah, Lucas, Nathan, Briggs, and Layke; sister Diane Cassel and brother David Prescott; in-laws Ed and Jackie Martin; sister-in-law Laura Guillory; nephews Anthony Fontana (Hannan Alkhalifa), Taylor Fontana (Alicia Arellano), and Stephen Prescott; dear friends William “Bill” and Laurie Glaymeyer; and numerous other relatives and friends.
