Darrell was born on January 31, 1957, in Brenham, Texas, to Robert and Mary Lee Lauter. He was raised in Navasota, Texas, and graduated from Navasota High School. From a young age, Darrell had a passion for sports and played every sport he had the opportunity to. That love of competition stayed with him throughout his life, and he remained a devoted sports fan for many years.

Darrell was a man of many talents and passions. He never met a stranger and loved making people laugh. He spent twenty years working for Central Freight Lines before moving into the construction industry and eventually running his own construction company. He later retired from Texas A&M University, where he worked as a carpenter. His dedication, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic were evident in everything he did.

Above all else, Darrell enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved spoiling his grandbabies, listening to 70s rock music, smoking a brisket on the barbecue pit, and watching the Little League World Series. During many summers, he served on mission trips with the youth group to Mexico with his church, creating lasting memories while sharing his faith and helping others. Darrell touched the lives of those around him in a meaningful way. His kindness, laughter, generosity, and steady spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ann (Seidel) Lauter; his children, Blake Lauter and his wife Rachel of Whitehall, Texas, and Amberly Jolly and her husband, Jason Jolly, of Navasota, Texas; his cherished grandchildren, Adeline and Cassie Garza, and Bentley, Cohen, and Wrenley Jolly;  his siblings, Carol Winkler and David Lauter Sr.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary Seidel and his wife Michelle, Tommy Seidel and his wife Linda; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Tiffany Ann Lauter, and his parents, Robert and Mary Lee Lauter.

Pallbearers will be Shane Prescott, Chad Perry, Bentley Jolly, Dominique Lowery, Bradley Fritz, and Michael Zalobny. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Seidel, Ken Hutcherson, and Michael Prescott.

Darrell will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his lifelong passion for sports. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
