Millican

John Riley Dockery, II, 60, of Millican, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 13th. Cremation services are in the care of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

John Riley Dockery II, a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by the family he cherished most. His life was defined by loyalty, service, and an unwavering love for his family. He loved his friends deeply and was always the first to lend a hand, whether it was helping a neighbor or giving back to the community.

Born with a heart for adventure and a deep respect for nature, John found joy in hunting and spending time in the quiet beauty of the woods. But nothing in life ever mattered more to him than the people he loved.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Dockery, who was his constant companion for 35 years and the love of his life. Together they built a home filled with laughter, dedication, and strong family values.

John was the proud father of Sarah Dockery, Katy Dockery, and Trey Dockery. He adored his children beyond measure and took pride in the adults they became. His daughter Katy blessed him with a cherished grandson, Weston Reed, who brought renewed light and joy into his life. Katys husband, Nick, also held a special place in his heart.

He is also survived by his siblings, Gina Dockery and Arthur Dockery, who shared in his memories, milestones, and lifelong bond.

A man committed to service, John was a proud member of the Lions Club, where he dedicated his time to helping others in the community. He also built a respected career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he trained canines with skill, patience, and a deep sense of purpose. His work left a lasting impact on those he served alongside.

John will be remembered for his strength, his humor, his enormous heart, and his steady presence. To know him was to know kindness, loyalty, and the comfort of someone who always showed up when needed most.

His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the community he served, and the countless lives he quietly touched. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he leaves behind will forever remain a source of strength and comfort.

There will be a celebration of life on February 7, 2026 from 1-3 PM at the Lions Club building. We’re planning a time during the celebration of life for family and friends to share stories about John. If you have a memory or moment you’d like to talk about, we would be honored to hear it.

We are deeply thankful for the anonymous donor who helped pay for my Dad’s cremation. Your generosity lifted a huge burden during one of the hardest moments of our lives. We may not know who you are, but we will never forget what you did.
