Joseph "Joe" Warren Leonard, Jr.

Some people pass through life quietly, but Joseph “Joe” Warren Leonard, Jr. left an impression that lasted a lifetime. A true one-of-a-kind character, Joe had a larger-than-life presence, a quick wit, and a talent for making sure anyone who met him never forgot him. On Monday, August 31, 2026, Joe, 67, of Madisonville, formerly of Bryan, entered into his eternal rest peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Born on Wednesday, September 10, 1958, in Hearne, Texas, to Joseph Warren Leonard, Sr. and Ella Ruth (Brinkley) Leonard, Joe was built with a generous heart and a legendary sense of humor. He graduated from Bryan High School in 1977 and went straight to work, building a long, dedicated career in the automotive and auto-parts industry. Work was where he showed his grit, but his real art was bringing joy into everyday life. Armed with an endless supply of jokes, snappy one-liners, and an infectious warmth, Joe worked endlessly to provide for his family while making sure no room was ever too quiet when he was around.

Joe’s life changed forever when he met his high school sweetheart, Audrey Reed. The two were married on March 18, 1978, at Central Baptist Church on Coulter Street in Bryan. Over 48 years of marriage, they shared an enduring bond, endless laughter, and raised three children: Joey, Brandi, and Cole. In his younger years, Joe was an active outdoorsman and athlete who loved hunting, boxing, and working out. As the years went on, he traded the gym and the woods for the casino, developing a real love for gambling, testing his luck, and enjoying the thrill of the game.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Warren Leonard, Sr. and Ella Ruth Leonard; and his brothers-in-law, John Berridge, Dion Batton, Danny Seymore, and Dennis Beverly.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey Reed Leonard; his children, Joseph “Joey” Warren Leonard III, Brandi Nicole Leonard Fields and husband David, Jr., and Brian Cole Leonard; his cherished grandchildren, Joseph Warren Leonard IV and wife Brandi, Donovan Leonard, Cade Leonard and Brie, Destiny Fields, D.J. Fields and Madison, Dabria Fields, and Brysen Leonard; and his great-grandchildren, Corinne, Warren, Dawsyn, Denym, Daylan, and Baylor.

He also leaves behind his treasured sisters, Janeth “Chatchie” Nevill and husband Michael, Anna Laura “Patsy” Leonard Klesel and husband Dennis, Linda Kay Leonard-Dobrovolny and husband Antone, Cindy Leonard Berridge, Sherry Leonard Mushinski and husband Stephen, Sally Leonard Whitaker and husband David, and Jodie Leonard Jasper and husband Bobby; brother, James “Jimbo” Klesel and wife Sarah; his sisters-in-law’s Linda “Kay” Seymore and Rebecca “Becky” Beverly. Joe’s surviving aunt and uncles, Mary Harrelson, Frank Brinkley, and Mac Brinkley; an abundance of nieces and nephews; as well as a large extended family and an endless circle of friends who will forever miss his colorful spirit.

Services will be held in Navasota to honor and celebrate his life. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 11, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Nobles Funeral Chapel (402 E. Blackshear St., Navasota, TX 77868). A Celebration of Life will take place at the chapel the following morning, Saturday, September 12, at 11:00 AM, conducted by Joe’s close friend and cousin, Dr. John Sawtelle. A reception and lunch will follow at the VFW Post 4006 (1575 W. Washington Ave., Navasota, TX 77868). Cremation services are under the care of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
