Mark was born on September 13, 1958, in Houston, Texas. Mark lived a life rooted in family, friendship, and a deep love for the outdoors.
He worked for Brookshire Brothers in Navasota from 1989 until 2022, when he became disabled. He was known as a dedicated worker and a familiar, friendly face to many in the community.
Mark, a true outdoorsman, Mark had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing and was especially proud of the time he spent doing both with his father. He loved being out on the water fishing whenever he had the chance and found peace and happiness there. He was an expert marksman who won several turkey shoots over the years, reflecting both his skill and patience. For many years, he owned and operated Mark’s Outpost in Anderson, where he shared his knowledge and love of the outdoors.
At Mark’s Outpost, he also shared his love of shooting the breeze and drinking a cold beer with friends, always making people feel welcome. Some Thanksgivings, Mark and his mother would prepare and serve free Thanksgiving dinners for deer hunters and for anyone who had nowhere else to go, reflecting the generosity and kindness that defined his life.
He was also a great moon player and spent many hours playing and hosting moon games at Mark’s Outpost, bringing people together and creating lasting memories.
Mark was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Iola, Texas.
He lived a simple life and never needed much, but he had a generous heart and would give his last dime to anyone in need. He will be remembered for his kindness, his easygoing nature, his strong friendships, and the joy he found in simple moments—whether in the woods, on the water, around a game table, or surrounded by those he cared about.
Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Ivene Heinrich of Iola, Texas.
Mark is survived by his sister, Cyndy Thompson and her husband, Mark Thompson of Cypress, Texas; his niece, Kristin Wierzba and her husband, Preston Wierzba of New Orleans, Louisiana; his great-nieces, Chandler Wierzba and Reagan Wierzba; and close cousins, Laurie and Bud Plagens. He also leaves behind his lifelong friend since kindergarten, Kenny Haarmeyer; his best friend, Michael “Lightning” Pasket; and the many friends he made easily throughout his life.
