Myra Sue Melvin, 71, of Navasota, passed away Thursday, May 9, in Houston. Visitation with family and friends will be held Thursday, May 23, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Nobles Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be celebrated Friday, May 24, at 11:00 AM at Union Grove Baptist Church of White Hall with Rev. Faber McMullen officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Myra was born March 31, 1953, in Beeville, TX to Mack Bishop and Laurel Ann (Mickey) Kornfuehrer Bishop. She was raised in Zapata, TX. Myra graduated from Hemphill High School then attended Henderson County Junior College and Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University – San Marcos).
In 1988, Myra followed her sister up to Reno, Nevada. She hated the cold for the entire 34 years she was there. She finally made it back to Texas in late 2022, and landed in Navasota. Myra became active in and really loved her church family at Union Grove Baptist Church. Myra was currently retired after owning her own house cleaning business for many years in Reno.
Myra is survived by her son Kenneth Lee Plemmons, III of Navasota, TX, granddaughter Kaylee Smith of Tyler, TX, older brother Michael Bishop (Jerry) of Alice, TX and older sister Margie Holt of Shiner, TX, step-daughters Amy Melvin Nichols and Angie Nichols of Oklahoma, as well as several nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband William (Bill) Melvin.
