Mr. Raymond Acosta

January 18, 1936 — January 30, 2021

Mr. Raymond Acosta, 85 of Navasota, passed away Saturday, January 30th at Goldencreek Healthcare and Rehab in Navasota. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 3rd at Nobles Funeral Chapel. A celebration of his life will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 4th at Faith Outreach Community Center with Pastor Henry Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Raymond was born on Allen Farm in Navasota, Texas on January 18, 1936 to Joe and Adela (Aguilar) Acosta. He married Pallita “Paula” Zaragoza on October 21, 1955 in Navasota and together they had six children. Raymond worked to support his family as a self-employed truck driver. He loved his family immensely and became heavily involved in his grandchildren and great-grandchildrens lives, religiously attending their school functions and sporting events. He enjoyed picking on them and giving them a hard time, and never missed inserting a life lesson between pranks. He usually had a small vegetable garden and took pride in the produce he would grow. Known around town and in most of the local convenience stores for his daily appearance to buy a handful of lottery scratch off tickets, he always had a smile and a kind word to share, particularly if he scratched a winner! On a few occasions he travelled with family to a casino, where it would became a real challenge to get him to leave his seat at a slot machine when it was time to leave.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Paula Acosta ; son Joe Raymond (Paula Nicolini) Acosta; daughters and sons-in-law Carolyn Byers (Ronnie), Amelia Whitis (Morris), Rachel Wells (Bryant), Elaine Reynolds and Margie Huffman (Todd); sisters and brother-in-law Pauline Cervantes (Mingo) and Yolanda Zaragoza; grandchildren Suzanne Smith Cook, Ashley Patterson, Chase Montgomery, Kevin Montgomery, Jr., Heather Whitis, Austin Whitis, Lyndsie Palmer, Bryant Wells, II., Cameron Wells, Hunter Reynolds, Rafe Reynolds, Knox Huffman, Wyatt Huffman, Scout Huffman, Dalton Raymond Acosta and Cal Robert Acosta and 16 great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers are Chase Montgomery, Austin Whitis, Bryant “Buzzy” Wells, II., Hunter Reynolds, Knox Huffman, Dalton Raymond Acosta and Cal Acosta. Honorary bearers are Kevin Montgomery, Cameron Wells, Rafe Reynolds and Wyatt Huffman.

Mr. Acosta was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Janie Tovar and Annie Munoz.
