Mr. Sewell E. Stewart, 80, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024, in Bryan. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 30, beginning at 11:30 AM at Evergreen Baptist Church in Keith. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM at the church with Rev. Jeff Morgan officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Sewell was born in Harris County on October 24, 1943, to Willie & Emma (Teal) Stewart, he led a life marked by dedication to his community, faith, and family.
Sewell's early education was completed at Richards ISD followed by Iola ISD where he graduated, and he furthered his education by becoming a certified teacher in Agricultural Mechanics. His professional life was robust and varied; he started as a Construction Superintendent, overseeing the development of high rises, grocery stores, and schools. After retiring in the 1980s, Sewell embraced the life of a rancher and horse trader. His commitment to his faith was evident as he served as a Worship Leader, Deacon, and eventually as Pastor at his Church; Trading Post, Independent Gospel Church in Iola, TX.
Sewell proudly served in both the Army and Navy, bringing dedication and honor to his roles. His personal interests were as broad as his career, ranging from fixing lawnmowers to raising chickens, cows, horses, and even the occasional exotic animal. Sewell was an exceptional gardener, and he cherished time with his grandchildren. He was a regular at local livestock and horse sales. He enjoyed weekly fellowship with friends, especially Liver and Onion Wednesdays.
He was preceded in death by his parents Emma and Willie Stewart; son William Travis Stewart; brothers Billy, Ned, and Jimmy Stewart; and sister Alice Kocian.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Yancey Stewart, Bradley Stewart and wife De Ann, Linda Stewart, the mother of his children; Cleve Stewart and wife Samantha, and Melinda Pruett and husband Shaun; sisters Luann Halford, Sue Ellen Foehner, and Jana Reynolds; grandchildren, Dakoda, Gracie, Kylie, Trey, Conner, Liberty, Mckenzi, and Jada; and great-grandchildren, Noah & Emma.
Serving as pallbearers are Roman Trant, Waylon Carter, C.A. Glass, Pete Commander, Mitihal Mick, Curtis Stewart, and Ralph Barnett.
Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota, Texas, is assisting the family during this time. Sewell's life was a testament to his enduring spirit and commitment to his principles, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
