Thelma Lewis Williams was born on June 7, 1945, in Navasota, Texas, where she began a life rooted in faith, service, and deep love for family. From her earliest years, Thelma’s life reflected God’s grace and purpose, and she carried that calling with humility, strength, and unwavering devotion throughout her journey.
She was a proud graduate of George Washington Carver High School in Navasota, Texas, Class of 1964. Education, discipline, and character were values she held close and lived out daily. Those principles shaped not only her own life but also the lives of the many people she touched through her guidance, wisdom, and example.
Above all, Thelma was a faithful servant of the Lord. Her walk with Christ was evident in every aspect of her life. For many years, she faithfully served at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, where she led the Youth Program with dedication and love. She poured into generations of young people, teaching them God’s Word, instilling strong values, and encouraging them to live lives grounded in faith. Her influence extended far beyond the church walls, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives. To many, she was more than a leader. She was a mentor, a prayer warrior, and a steady source of encouragement.
Thelma’s love for her family was profound and unwavering. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother and found her greatest joy in those closest to her heart. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Talicia, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. She also leaves behind her beloved grandsons, Eric and Erion, the pride and joy of her life, along with her sister Betty Ruth Creeks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who will forever treasure her memory, her prayers, and her love.
Thelma was preceded in death by her loving mother and father, Thelma Bassett and Richard Lewis.; her brothers, Hubert Sargent and Richard Lewis Jr.; and her sisters, Annie McGowan and Etta Smart.
To know Thelma was to know kindness, patience, and grace. She had a gentle spirit, a fiery sense of humor, and a way of making people feel seen, heard, and loved. Her faith anchored her through every season of life, and her trust in God never wavered. Even in difficult moments, she remained steadfast, leaning on God’s promises and encouraging others to do the same.
Though she has transitioned from this earthly life, Thelma Lewis Williams leaves behind a powerful legacy of faith, service, and love. Her life was a living testimony of devotion to God and compassion for others. As Scripture reminds us, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
She will be deeply missed, yet lovingly remembered. Her spirit lives on through her family, her church, and all whose lives she touched. We rejoice knowing she now rests peacefully in the arms of her Savior, reunited with loved ones gone before her, and welcomed home with eternal peace.
