It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas “Tommy” Adair Hoffpauir Sr., a dedicated police officer who served our community for 34 years. He passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on October 31, 2023 at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering commitment to public service and a loving family.
Tommy was born on Christmas Eve 1938 and dedicated his life to serving and protecting our community. He joined the Houston Police Department in1967 and quickly became known for his dedication, courage, and integrity. He tirelessly worked to ensure the safety and the well-being of our citizens, making his mark as a true hero.
Beyond his career in law enforcement, Tommy was a devoted spouse for 68 years, sharing a deep and enduring love with Irene Elizabeth Deihl. Their love story is a testament to the power of a lifelong commitment. Married on September 15, 1956, Tommy and Irene built a life together filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
He was a dedicated horse enthusiast who found solace and connection in their presence. Tommy spent countless hours in the company of horses, sharing in their grace and strength. His bond with all animals is a source of inspiration for all who knew him.
Another interest of Tommy’s was his ability to engineer or repair just about anything. There wasn’t a problem that he couldn’t solve. He was a journeyman electrician, plumber and carpenter. He loved sharing his knowledge and expertise with anyone in need. He truly was the “give you the shirt off his back” kind of man.
Tommy is survived by his devoted spouse, Irene Hoffpauir and two children; Thomas “Also Tommy” Adair Hoffpauir Jr. and Donna Deyo with son-in-law Gregory Payne. Loving grandchildren include Abbi Hoffpauir, Thomas “Tad” Adair Hoffpauir III, Derek “DJ” Deyo, Hunter Deyo, Sara Jefferson and Nick Jefferson. Adoring great grandchildren Thomas Adair Hoffpauir IV, Emery Hoffpauir, Alexander Deyo and Ozzy Jefferson. Tommy will be reunited with his parents: Winan Joseph Hoffpauir and Dorthy Stevens Hoffpauir, his brother Steve Hoffpauir and his son, Joseph “Kelly” Hoffpauir.
Visitation to celebrate the life and service of Tommy will be held on November 11, 2023 at 9:30 am with funeral services following at 10:30 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas.
Tommy will forever be remembered as a true hero who dedicated his life to keeping our community safe. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and courage that will never be forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.
